The Ossining Police Department provisionally appointed Aaron Zimmerman as its new chief in a swearing-in ceremony held on Wednesday evening, March 13, village officials announced.

Zimmerman replaces Interim Chief Brendan Donohue, who took the role following Chief Kevin Sylvester's retirement in December and will now serve as a captain.

A 20-year veteran of the department, Zimmerman previously served as a detective lieutenant and has earned several certifications with the FBI National Academy Associates and New York Division of Criminal Justice. He was also a member of the SWAT team for 16 years and earned the position of commander.

He holds a Bachelor of Science from SUNY Oneonta and volunteers with the Yorktown Athletic Club. Additionally, he is also a member of the Hudson Valley Lacrosse Officials Association and the Westchester Putnam Wrestling Officials Association.

Zimmerman is also a past president of the Ossining Police Benevolent Association.

"I am honored to lead the Ossining Police Department in this new capacity and look forward to working collaboratively with the Ossining community to advance the department's commitment to community policing, strategic planning with a focus on technology, and critical incident management," Zimmerman said.

Ossining Mayor Rika Levin also commented on Zimmerman's appointment, saying, "Chief Zimmerman joins a long line of strong, forward-thinking chiefs in the Ossining Police Department."

"I expect big things from Chief Zimmerman as we enter a new chapter, and I have confidence that he will build a strong team and exceptional police department for the community," Levin added.
